Finite element modeling of counter-roller spinning for large-sized aluminum alloy cylindrical parts

Dawei ZHANG, Fan LI, Shuaipeng LI, Shengdun ZHAO

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2019, Volume 14, Issue 3,   Pages 351-357 doi: 10.1007/s11465-019-0528-z

Abstract: Counter-roller spinning (CRS), where the mandrel is replaced by rollers, is an effective means of manufacturing large-sized, thin-walled, cylindrical parts with more than 2500 mm diameter.with distributed power was designed in this work for CRS with four pairs of rollers to manufacture a large-sized, thin-walled, cylindrical part with 6000 mm diameter.

An automated arc spray tooling system for rapid die-making of large-sized automobile body panels

HE Zhong-yun, LU Bing-heng, WANG Yi-qing, HONG Jun, TANG Yi-ping

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2006, Volume 1, Issue 2,   Pages 209-214 doi: 10.1007/s11465-006-0012-4

Abstract: A creative robot wrist consisting of link mechanisms and a novel robot motion control method based on the cross-sectional vector contours of an STL-formatted model was proposed. By using the wrist and the control method, an industrial robot with five degrees of freedom for rapid tooling using metal arc spraying and electric brush plating techniques was developed. The wrist of the robot including a specially designed link mechanism can maintain the position of the spraying point on the surface of the master pattern whatever the orientation of the gun. Therefore, the kinematic nonlinear coupling between the position mechanism and orientation mechanism in a traditional robot can be avoided. The only input of the control system is the STL-formatted 3D CAD model of the pattern. Without the need of any manual programming, the metal arc spraying and brush plating (if necessary) processes can be performed automatically and efficiently after receiving the 3D CAD data of the pattern. Using this robot system in new car development and trial production, the cost and lead-time can be reduced substantially as compared with the conventional tool making method.

Strategic Study of CAE 2002, Volume 4, Issue 7,   Pages 17-22

Abstract:

This paper has set up a mathematical model of economic development, which combines the linear program model and the input-output model, based on analyzing the systematic structure and program objectives in the farm of Shengli Oil Fields. It has achieved satisfactory results in eight years by means of the mathematical model to guide the economic production in the farm and proved that the established model is right.

Should medium-sized contractors still implement home-made information technologies on construction sites

Conrad BOTON, Éric ST-PIERRE, Gabriel LEFEBVRE

Frontiers of Engineering Management 2020, Volume 7, Issue 1,   Pages 142-158 doi: 10.1007/s42524-019-0065-9

Abstract: Despite the increasing dissemination of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) approach, many firms are still far from BIM and are only starting to adopt information technologies. We conducted an ethnographic action research with an industrial partner that implements information technologies on its construction sites, with a strong preference for home-made applications. Results show that the development of such applications faces difficulties and that multiple iterations and versions are necessary before achieving the expected goals because the required competencies are lacking among internal development teams. Moreover, initial needs evolve considerably throughout the application’s development and evaluation process. However, notwithstanding the difficulties encountered during the different application development phases, the industrial partner believes the decision to be worthwhile because of the desire to have internal control over the project data and the need to consider certain specificities related to business processes.

Residual stresses in coating-based systems, part I: Mechanisms and analytical modeling

ZHANG Xiancheng, WU Yixiong, XU Binshi, WANG Haidou

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2007, Volume 2, Issue 1,   Pages 1-12 doi: 10.1007/s11465-007-0001-2

Abstract: Thin films and multi-layered coatings comprised of different classes of materials are often used for various functional devices. The thermo-mechanical integrity of these systems is becoming a major concern and is strongly related to the residual stresses because of the fabrication processes. In this paper, the sources of the residual stresses in the coating-based systems and the concept of misfit strain were briefly reviewed. Analytical models were developed to predict the residual stresses in multi-layered film structures or coating-based systems using the force and moment balances. In addition, the residual stress distributions in the func tionally and compositionally graded coatings were also analyzed.
